NJ Woman Arrested in Alleged Drunk Driving Death

Vanessa Brown, 32, plowed into a man as she crashed into several vehicles in Hanover Township Saturday, authorities say

A 32-year-old New Jersey woman is facing intoxicated driving, vehicular homicide and other charges after allegedly hitting a man with her car, killing him, authorities said.

The district attorney's office said Vanessa Brown of Parsippany was driving recklessly on Ridgedale Avenue in East Hanover at about 1:47 p.m. Saturday when she allegedly left the roadway and struck a man. The victim had been standing outside the driver's door of his pickup truck in parking lot parallel to the road.

Brown's car continued through the parking lot for about another 60 feet before crashing into several parked cars in an auto parts store parking lot, causing the vehicle to come to a rest, authorities said.

The man, 49-year-old Ralph Politi Jr. of East Hanover, died as a result of the crash, the prosecutor's office said.

There were no other occupants in Brown's car.

Brown was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, unsafe tires, unregistered vehicle and second-degree vehicular homicide.

She remains in the Morris County Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail. It  wasn't immediately clear if she had an attorney.
