NJ Elf Charged With Drunken Driving

An elf allegedly sleeping off a night of holiday cheer faces a drunken driving charge in New Jersey, police said Saturday.

Riverdale police found 23-year-old Brian Chellis passed out in a car early Friday morning wearing an Elf on the Shelf costume, authorities told NJ.com.

The Cedar Grove man was asleep behind the wheel of a van with its engine running, lights on and music blaring, said Lt. James Macintosh. Chellis was wearing a red shirt, red pants and white ruffled collar, he said.

Chellis seemed confused about where he was and had an open can of beer in the car., Macintosch said. He was issued a summons and released to a family member.

A message left Saturday seeking comment from Chellis wasn't immediately returned.
