A 27-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with a hit-and-run earlier this month that has left a New Jersey college student in a coma.
Michael Choynowski, 27, is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury. He is also charged with endangering an injured victim. Choynowski faces three to five years in prison on each count if convicted.
Clifton Police say that a dark pickup truck, possibly a Ford F-150, hit and critically injured 22-year-old Anna Semioli as she was walking along Route 46 at about midnight on Oct. 9. The vehicle left the scene after hitting the Montclair State University student.
Police say they reviewed surveillance video and identified the vehicle's driver, Choynowski. Semioli's family had offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
Semioli was supposed to be meeting friends on campus the night of the hit-and-run, according to friends. Her car was found parked in a campus parking lot about a mile from where she was struck.
Semioli was in a coma at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, her family said. She was believed to still be in a coma Thursday.
