Wife, 7-Year-Old Son Died of Blunt Force Trauma in New Jersey Murder-Suicide: Prosecutors

Investigators say it appears a marital dispute led Gregg Scott to kill his family, then take his own life

What to Know

  • The name of the family involved has not been released and there was not immediate information on a possible murder weapon
  • Cops were first called to the scene in Lacey Township Wednesday afternoon
  • Multiple law enforcement agencies are involved in processing the scene; the circumstances surrounding the murder-suicide remain unclear

A marital dispute apparently led a man to kill his wife, his 7-year-old son and the family dog in their New Jersey home before taking his own life, authorities said Friday.

The Ocean County prosecutor's office says it is awaiting autopsy results to determine how 51-year-old Gregg Scott died. But they reaffirmed the initial statement that the wounds appeared to be self-inflicted.

Scott's wife, 48-year-old Kimberly Dunphey and his son, Owen Scott, died of blunt force trauma injuries, officials said. The family and their dog, a Welsh Corgi, were found dead Wednesday afternoon in their Lacey Township home.

There was no immediate word on the possible murder weapon.

Officials say the Ocean County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Unit, Lacey Township Police Department, Ocean County Sherriff's Department CSI Unit and the county medical examiner's office are all involved in the investigation.
