Multiple Gunshots Fired Into Unoccupied NJ Church

Multiple gunshots were fired into an unoccupied New Jersey church on the day after Christmas and police are looking for clues to determine who vandalized the house of worship.

More than 30 shots damaged the Old Paramus Reformed Church in Ridgewood, said the Rev. Robert L. Miller, pastor. Several slugs left holes in a stained-glass window, he said.

Repairing the window will cost at least $50,000, Miller said.

Detectives with the Ridgewood Police Department said the motive for the vandalism is a mystery. The church and its pastor haven't received any threats, they added.

The damage caused by the bullets was discovered just before morning service on Sunday, the pastor said.

The church was built in 1800 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, according to the church's website.

Ridgewood detectives and the Bergen County Crime Scene Investigation Unit were collecting evidence at the church on Sunday. Anyone with information is asked to call the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.
