Convict Arrested in Westchester Woman's Death

Lucius Crawford, 60, has a long criminal history, according to reports

Police have arrested a Mount Vernon man in the killing of a woman found inside his apartment Tuesday.

The woman's body was found in the basement apartment at 7 Beekman Ave. The man who lives there, 60-year-old Lucius Crawford, was taken into custody nearby.

It wasn't immediately clear how the woman died or if she knew Crawford. Police have not identified her.

The Journal News reports Crawford previously served 13 years in prison for attempted murder after stabbing a 31-year-old co-worker who allegedly refused to date him. He was paroled in February 2008 and has lived in the Beekman Avenue apartment for more than a year.

Crawford moved to Westchester in 1991 after his release from a South Carolina prison, where he'd served two separate terms totaling 17 years for stabbing at least seven women, according to The Journal News. Four were attacked in a five-day spree. The victims ranged in age from 14 to 28. None were fatal.

It wasn't immediately clear if Crawford has an attorney.
