More Legal Trouble for Mele

Charges include felony possession of stolen property

A man questioned in the disappearance of a 25-year-old woman from a Chelsea nightclub this month has been charged with three unrelated felonies, a published report said Wednesday.

Orange County prosecutors unsealed new indictments charging Michael Mele, a level 1 sex offender, with possession of stolen property, the Times Herald Record reported.

Laura Garza, of Brooklyn, disappeared after leaving the trendy Manhattan nightclub "Marquee" with Mele on Dec. 3. Evidence from Mele's apartment points to foul play, police sources said, but no charges have been filed.

Mele, 23, was charged with two felony counts of fourth-degree possession of stolen property. The indictment indicates that authorities found a stolen credit card and stolen debit card in Mele’s apartment or in his possession on Dec. 6.

According to the Times Herald Record, Dec. 6 was one day after he surrendered to police on charges that he violated the terms of his probation for misdemeanor sex offenses in Rockland County.

Mele is also charged with failing to tell the state Department of Criminal Justice Services that he changed his address from his parents’ home in Newburgh to an apartment in Wallkill.
