Foul Play May Have Played Role in Long Island Man’s Disappearance: Police

Police on Long Island said that foul play might have been involved in the disappearance of a 19-year-old man.

Oscar Acosta was last seen walking near his home on Thomas Street in Brentwood on April. 29, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

It's not clear where Acosta may have gone or what may have happened to him.

His mother, Maria Arias, wept Tuesday as she spoke of her concerns for her missing son. She said through an interpreter he has no cash, no cellphone and no ID. She said it's out of character for him not to call.

She added that her son expressed concern with gangs before the family moved to Brentwood about a year and a half ago, though she insists her son was not involved with gangs.

Acosta came to the U.S. from El Salvador three years ago. He is a senior at the high school in Central Islip school district.

He's described as being about 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs about 205 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, jeans and black and white sneakers.
