BWI Charges Dropped in LI Boating Death

Janusz Sowa will be released from the Nassau County Correctional Center Wednesday

Charges have been dropped against a Long Island man who was accused of boating while intoxicated after his friend fell overboard and died two weeks ago, the Nassau County District Attorney's office said Wednesday.

Janusz Sowa will be released from the Nassau County Correctional Center Wednesday, the office said.

Preliminary results of an autopsy on Stanislaw Nawrocki found "no evidence suggesting that Janusz Sowa was responsible for Nawrocki's death," Chris Munzing, a Nassau DA spokesman, said in a statement.

Nawrocki's body was found Aug. 10 by an NYPD Harbor Unit off Rockaway.

Sowa pleaded not guilty to BWI charges. He was represented by Legal Aid, which does not comment on pending cases.
