A 1-year-old Queens boy who had been in the temporary care of his aunt has been reported missing, days after the woman was supposed to surrender him to a foster agency.
Zayden Montero was last seen Friday around 10 a.m. at his Albert Road home, police say. His biological aunt, Darlene Melo, had been caring for him. Melo had been ordered by a court to surrender the child to the New York Foundling Foster Care on Sunday, though it wasn't immediately clear why.
A member of the New York Foundling Foster Care had been scheduled to take custody of Montero at his aunt's home on Tuesday, but she fled with the boy, police say. Neither the baby nor his aunt have been seen since.
Montero is described as being about 2 feet 4 inches tall and 22 pounds. His aunt drives a red Chevrolet Impala with Florida plates, police say.
Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call authorities.
