Major Judaica Collection to Be Auctioned at Sotheby's

The collection is expected to bring approximately $11 million

Philanthropist and ex-Wall Street money manager Michael Steinhardt amassed a huge collection of material on Jewish history and culture over the last 30 years.

Now the 72-year-old wants others to be able to enjoy it.

Sotheby's will auction Steinhardt's collection in New York on April 29 after also exhibiting it in Moscow and Jerusalem.

The collection is expected to bring approximately $11 million.

Experts say it's the most significant collection of Judaica to come on the market in half a century.

The objects range from antiquity to modern times and come from every corner of the globe.  Among the highlights is a Torah from the 15th century. Its estimated value is $4.5 million to $6 million.

Steinhardt earned his fortune after launching his own hedge fund.
