Former NYPD Officer Pleads Guilty to Rape

Michael Pena was convicted in March of grabbing a woman off the street and assaulting her

A former NYPD officer already convicted of sex charges for assaulting a schoolteacher has pleaded guilty to an additional rape charge.

Michael Pena pleaded guilty to rape Thursday in a deal that will allow the victim to avoid having to face him in a retrial.

Pena was sentenced last month to 75 years to life after he was convicted of sexually assaulting the teacher while he was off duty. But the jury deadlocked on rape charges.

He will be sentenced to another 10 years to life on the rape charge but the sentences will be concurrent

The woman testified that a drunken Pena grabbed her off the street, forced her into an Upper Manhattan apartment building courtyard and raped her at gunpoint last August.
