Mets, Yankees Send Gifts to Miracle Little Leaguer

Boy, 11, grazed by bullet on Brooklyn ballfield

The 11-year-old Little Leaguer who was struck in the head by a stray bullet is getting gifts from the Mets and Yankees.

Davonte Kelly was on the bleachers at a Brooklyn ballfield on Sunday when he was hit. He and some other youngsters were waiting to have their team picture taken when he cried out in pain, leaving those around him thinking a ball struck him. Instead, it was a bullet that took doctors three hours to remove later that night.

The boy was released from Brookdale Hospital Wednesday.

The Mets sent the second baseman a get-well basket featuring a bobblehead doll of pitcher Johan Santana and a replica of the old Shea Stadium. He also planned to meet Mets third baseman David Wright.

The Yankees sent the boy some game tickets.

Kelly says he plans to resume playing with his team as soon as possible.

It's still not known who fired the shot. Investigators said it likely wasn't intended for any of the ballplayers, adding that it probably was shot from a great distance away.
