Teacher Bought Teen Booze at Metropolitan Museum of Art: Police

A teacher at a prestigious Manhattan school is facing child endangerment charges after police say he gave a student alcohol at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Dean Berthea, a teacher at Columbia Secondary School for Math, Science and Engineering, was cuffed Tuesday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

Authorities say that he gave the teen alcohol at the museum.

The New York Post and Daily News both report that Berthea allegedly bought the 16-year-old student alcohol at the museum's cafe. Afterward, he allegedly told the girl she was beautiful, then walked her to the subway, where he asked to kiss her.

The teen rebuffed the teacher, then told her mother what happened once she got home. That's when police got involved, according to the papers.

The city Education Department said that the allegations were "disturbing" and that the teacher had been reassigned, according to the Post.

Attorney information for Berthea wasn't immediately available.
