Snow Storm Commuter Guide: What to Know About Getting Around Monday

Commuters and officials were preparing for a messy Monday morning rush hour as another storm dumps heavy snow across much of the region. 

Mayor de Blasio urged all New Yorkers to avoid driving on Monday morning if possible. 

"We are advising all New Yorkers to avoid all unnecessary travel and stay off the roads," said NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Joseph Esposito. "If you must travel, use mass transit.” 

Alternate side parking regulations were suspended Monday and Tuesday. They were already suspended on Wednesday for Ash Wednesday. 

In New Jersey, where Gov. Murphy issued a state of emergency, drivers were asked to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. There were commercial vehicle travel restrictions for all tractor trailers, passenger vehicles pulling trailers, recreational vehicles and motorcycles on the following interstates: I-295, I-76, I-676, I-195, I-78, I-80, I-280, I-287.

Newark residents were warned not to park on snow-covered roadways or their cars could be towed.

Amtrak has canceled some trains between New York, Philadelphia and Harrisburg on Monday due to the weather.

Keystone Service Trains 605, 609, 647, 651, 639, 642, 646, 656, 620 were canceled with no alternate transportation, Amtrak said. 

RAILS:

Subway:

  • The subways are still operating on a normal schedule, but E, F, M and R trains are running with extensive delays because of a power failure.
LIRR:
  • All lines are reporting good service and the agency said it will operate on a normal schedule Monday.
NJ Transit:

Metro-North:

  • The railroad is operating on normal weekday schedule. 
ROADS AND BUSES: 
  • All MTA buses are reporting some delays because of inclement weather. Click here to check you line
  • Alternate side parking rules are suspended Monday andTuesday for snow operations, the NYC Department of Transportation said. They are also suspended Wednesday for Ash Wednesday.
  • A hazardous travel advisory is in effect in New York City through Monday.
  • Newark residents were warned not to park on snow-covered roadways or their cars could be towed.
  • Speed limits were reduced to 35 mph at the Outerbridge Crossing between Staten Island and Perth Amboy and Goethals Bridge between Staten Island and Elizabeth, the Port Authority said.
  • Port Authority Bus Terminal is operating on its operating normal schedule.
