Three men are facing charges in connection to an alleged robbery at a warehouse facility that took place Wednesday night in New Jersey, authorities say.

According to the North Brunswick Police Department, patrol units were dispatched to an alleged robbery in progress at 1675 Jersey Ave. just before 7 p.m. after several men, armed with a handgun, entered the commercial building.

The armed men allegedly assaulted and took over an unarmed security guard who was working there, authorities say, adding that the men then attempted to steal merchandise from the facility.

The security guard was able to escape and run to a nearby neighborhood and call for help and when officers arrived at the warehouse, they allegedly observed the men attempting to leave the building.

Police say one of the men got into a box-style truck and attempted to flee. Officers pursued the vehicle into nearby New Brunswick where the truck crashed and the driver then fled on foot. However, police were able to capture him after a foot pursuit.

According to officials, while that pursuit was going on, other officers set up around the facility to apprehend the other men that were seen heading back into the building upon the arrival of authorities.

The Middlesex County Special Operations Response Team (SORT) responded to clear the building and subsequently two additional men were found hiding near the building and were arrested.

A search allegedly uncovered several items of evidence, including the weapon used.

Axell Mendoza, 30, of North Bergen, Alex Pelerigo, 50, of Elizabeth, and Jun Jang, 31, of Iselin were arrested in connection to the incident.

The three are facing charges of robbery, burglary, theft, possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and eluding.

They were taken to Middlesex County Department of Corrections pending court proceedings.

It is not immediately clear if any of the men retained an attorney who could comment on the charges.

According to authorities, the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to call North Brunswick Detectives at 732-247-0922 x420.
