A memorial service will be held at a Long Island beach for a beloved teacher who died while surfing in Indonesia.
The service for Daniel Bobis will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. at the boardwalk in Long Beach, according to Newsday.
Bobis was a math teacher at Long Beach High School. He also started a competitive surf team there and was head coach.
Indonesian fishermen found his body on July 28. Official said he apparently hit another surfer's board after emerging from the barrel of a powerful, 10-foot wave.
A friend, Sean Pearsall, said Bobis' wife, Rachel, brought his cremated remains home on Wednesday.
His family also planned a private service.
