Mayors Unite to Push for Uber Expansion in Upstate NY

Mayors of some of upstate New York's largest cities have joined together to support Uber's proposal to expand throughout the state.

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren, Binghamton Mayor Richard David and Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner announced Monday that they have signed on to a coalition of Uber supporters including Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan.

The app-based car service wants lawmakers to pass legislation next year allowing it to operate throughout the state. The company is now limited to the New York City area.

Supportive lawmakers say they're working on proposals to allow for the expansion, which they say would create new jobs and new transportation options for residents throughout the state.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he supports the idea of a statewide licensing system.

The Legislature is scheduled to convene in Albany in January.
