The former press secretary to Mayor Bloomberg has been hired to assist Speaker Sheldon Silver to navigate a sexual harassment case in the New York State Assembly.

Stu Loeser said in a statement he was helping "my friend, neighbor and assemblyman."

Silver's spokesman told The New York Times Loeser would be helping with strategic issues" and working closely with Silver's main political consultant, Jonathan Rosen.

Loeser served in the Bloomberg administration for six years. Since stepping down last month, he has launched his own media consulting and strategy business.

The sexual harassment scandal stems from allegations brought by four women who worked for Assemblyman Vito Lopez. He's denied the allegations.

The investigation includes a secret deal using public money approved by Silver to settle two claims against Lopez.
