Masked Robber With Gun Ties up Customers, Employees at Pier 1: Police

A masked man with a gun walked into a Pier 1 Imports store on Long Island Sunday and forced employees and customers to the back of the store, where he tied them up before stealing cash and money from a safe, authorities say.

The man entered the Pier 1 on East Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station around 7 p.m. After tying up most of the employees and customers in the back, police say he forced one employee to open up a safe for him.

It wasn't clear how much money the man made off with. No injuries were reported.

Authorities are investigating if the man is connected to a string of similar robberies across Suffolk County. Police say robberies Nov. 2 at Rainbow Shops in North Lindenhurst, Oct. 26 at Avenue Clothing in Deer Park, Oct. 12 at New York and Co. in West Babylon and Sept. 7 at Avenue Clothing in East Farmingdale followed a similar pattern.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
