Masked Gunman Tries to Rob, Threatens to Kill Off-Duty NYPD Officer in Queens: Police

A masked gunman tried to rob and threatened to kill an off-duty NYPD officer in Queens, police say, and newly released surveillance video shows the confrontation before the suspect got away.

The gunman approached the 30-year-old officer in front of 113-17 Sutphin Blvd. in Jamaica at about 1 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, according to police. 

The suspect showed a gun and told the off-duty officer not to move, police said. The officer took cover behind a vehicle, drew his weapon and identified himself.

The gunman said he was going to kill the officer and approached the vehicle, according to police. Both the officer and the suspect circled the vehicle, and the gunman fired a shot before running away.

No one was hurt.

The suspect is described as a being in his 20s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 150 pounds.
