2 Arrested in West Orange Home Invasion

Police say a man and a woman have been arrested in a New Jersey home invasion.

The burglary happened just before 11 a.m. in West Orange, when a female homeowner awoke to noises, police said. A man entered her room and ordered her to get under the bed while he rummaged through the home and fled with valuables including a purse, a watch and a laptop.

West Orange police arrested 42-year-old Derrick D. Williams of Irvington and a 46-year-old Stephanie Hannon of Newark after they spotted the suspects and followed them into East Orange.

Police said they found narcotics in the suspects' car, a black 1995 GMC.

They have been charged with robbery, burglary and theft.

Police said it appears Williams was able to get into the home through an unlocked window in the back of the home, and the suspects didn't know the victim. Police are looking into whether the suspects are connected to other home invasions in neighboring towns.
