Subway Thief Targets Women in Brooklyn: Police

Police are looking for a subway rider who allegedly stole a handbag from one woman and grabbed a gold chain off another's neck within a two-day period last month.

In the first robbery May 6, police say the man was on an F train in Gowanus around 8:30 a.m. When it stopped at Smith Street and 9th Street, he grabbed a 46-year-old woman's handbag containing a cellphone, cash and other items.

The next day, the man was on a G train approaching the same station and robbed a 70-year-old woman, snatching her gold chain before fleeing onto the platform.

Police have released a photo of the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
