Man Tries to Shoot Bodega Clerk After Being Denied Free Items: Owner

Police are looking for the gunman they say pulled the trigger only to have his gun jam when a clerk at a Bronx bodega refused to give him something for free.

Authorities said Timothy Bohler tried to shoot a an employee at the Bronx Habib Deli on East Gun Hill Road on Thursday night.

The deli’s owner, Ali Alhadiss, said that his brother was working that night when the suspect asked for something for free during checkout. When his brother said, no the man threw a can of iced tea at the 43-year-old and left.

Surveillance footage shows him returning a few minutes later with a gun. Alhadiss’s brother, Mohammed Seguon, said he heard the trigger click but that the gun didn’t go off.

"He start trying to shoot,” Alhadiss said. “He start trying to shoot you know my brother and trying to shoot the guy behind the cash register."

Alhadiss said that afterward, the man pistol-whipped Seguon and another clerk and took off in a Dodge Charger.

Police said they tracked down the car at Allerton and Tiemann avenues, and they heard a gunshot before the firearm was tossed from the vehicle.

The suspect then took off on foot. Police haven’t yet captured the man. A woman with him was taken into custody for questioning but was later released.

Alhadiss said he hopes police track down the man.

“He is still dangerous for other people not only for us,” he said.

Anyone with information on Bohler is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
