Man Tried to Bring Loaded Semi-Automatic Handgun on Plane: TSA

A man tried to bring a loaded semi-automatic handgun on a plane at Newark airport, authorities said Sunday.

The 9 mm semi-automatic handgun was detected Saturday in a security bag that went through an X-ray machine, the Transportation Security Administration said.

It was loaded with 18 hollow-point bullets, including one in the chamber, the TSA said.

Port Authority police confiscated the gun and arrested the man on state weapons charges, the TSA said.

The man, whose name wasn't released, lived in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, and was trying to fly to Cuba, the TSA said.
