Man Threatens to Kill Family, Dies in Police Standoff: Cops

A man died in a police-involved shooting after he barricaded himself in his New City home following an argument in which he threatened to kill family members, according to police.

Vincent Cordaro, 57, and a female relative had a fight around 7 p.m. Sunday at his home on North Little Tor Road and at some point during the argument, Cordaro pulled out a shotgun and threatened to kill the woman and other relatives, police said.

The victim tried to take the gun away from Cordaro and quickly left the home along with the other family members and a tenant, according to police.

Authorities established a perimeter around the home and tried to negotiate with the suspect to no avail, officials said.

The Clarkstown Critical Incident Response Team deployed gas into the home at about 11:30 p.m. to try to force Cordaro out, and he fired multiple shots at officers, according to officials. One of the tactical team officers fired one round back at Cordaro, apparently hitting him: there was no movement from Cordaro, and his conversation with the negotiators stopped.

Officers forced their way into the home just after 1 a.m. and found Cordaro from a gunshot wound.

No police officers were hit.
