A robbery suspect was stuck and killed by a northbound E train this morning, apparently during a police chase, law enforcement sources said.
The incident happened at the World Trade Center station around 1:54 a.m., law enforcement officials said.
Published reports say the young man was spotted in a robbery near Chambers Street and then fled police, dashing into the subway station. He attempted to jump from the platform, avoiding the electrified third rail, but he fell between cars, the Daily News said.
Police have not confirmed that there was a chase, and officials said police arrived on scene to find the man -- thought to be in his 20's -- unconscious and unresponsive "with trauma to the body."
The identification of the man has not been released.
The incident caused E train service to be suspended in both directions for nearly four hours, MTA officials said.
