Grieving New Jersey Father Pleads for Help Finding Killer Who Shot Son in Parking Lot

A grieving New Jersey father is pleading for help finding the person who killed his 22-year-old son in a parking lot just steps from their home Sunday night.

Authorities said William Karecki was found shot to death in a central New Jersey parking lot at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday by Aberdeen Township police. They were responding to a 911 call about a shooting in the parking lot off Ocean Boulevard, which is not far from Karecki's home.

Karecki had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene. A motive for the slaying remains under investigation.

The victim's father, Ed Karecki, was in tears Monday as he recalled last seeing his son as he walked out the door Sunday night. Not long after, police cars started flying up the street.

The father said Billy Karecki drove his car to the deserted lot after getting a phone call, and was shot as many as nine times.

"We want to know who did this. They murdered my boy. They murdered my son," he said.

Billy was hoping to become a mechanic and had helped neighbors like Susan Berg.

"He was just a great kid, always spoke nice," said Berg.

A Facebook posting by Ed Karecki appealed for help, and some wondered in the comments if a fight Billy had been in over a girlfriend a couple months ago in which he got arrested may have had anything to do with the shooting.

"I want them to find who did this to my son," Ed told NBC 4 New York. "My wife is devastated, my kids are devastated, my family is completely devastated. We want justice for whoever has done this to my boy."
