Man Pretends to Be Resident to Get Into Upper East Side Building, Steal Laptop: NYPD

Police are looking for a man who got into an Upper East Side apartment building and stole a resident’s laptop.

The suspect was able to convince another resident that he lived in the East 84th Street building and that his keys were not working, so he was able to get into the building at about 8 a.m. on May 10, police said.

The man took the elevator to the sixth floor and entered an unlocked apartment occupied by two men and took the Apple MacBook without their knowledge and fled, according to police.

Police released surveillance video of the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
