A Connecticut man has been charged with murder for allegedly stabbing his 16-year-old niece to death in a bathroom, then calling the cops, who say they found the uncle covered in blood.

Police say 31-year-old Richard Segabiro called authorities shortly after 10 p.m. Monday to report the stabbing. When they got to his apartment, they say they found him bloody and his niece, Francine Nyanzaninka, dead in a bathroom of what appeared to be multiple stab wounds.

Authorities say Segabiro told them he had raised his niece, but did not provide a motive for the stabbing. Segabiro's wife and three children were home at the time of the stabbing, but not injured, officials say.

Segabiro is being held in lieu of a $1.5 million bond; prosecutors had asked for $1 million. Segabiro said nothing in court Tuesday. His attorney had argued for a bond of $500,000, citing Segabiro's lack of criminal record and his cooperation. The judge instead upped it, and demanded Segabiro's passport be surrendered if he posts the bond.

Segabiro faces up to life in prison if convicted.
