One man was killed and three people were wounded in separate shootings in Newark, the latest in a spate of violence that has plagued the city in recent weeks.

Both shootings occurred around 7:30 p.m. Saturday and did not appear to be related. But authorities say the motives for both shootings remain under investigation.

The Star-Ledger reports that the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Newark resident Alwali McKie marked the city's 73rd homicide this year. It occurred on Aldine Street in the city's South Ward, but the victim's name was not released.

The other shooting occurred in the 100 block of Avon Avenue, near the border of the city's Central and South Wards. The three people wounded in the shooting were expected to recover, but further details on their injuries were not disclosed.
