A man allegedly trespassing on railroad tracks was hit and killed by a commuter train early Tuesday morning in New Jersey, transit officials say.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, was hit by a NJ Transit New Jersey Coast Line train near the border of Hazlet and Holmdel in Monmouth County about 5 a.m., officials say.
He was on the tracks near a road crossing at Bethany Road, NJ Transit officials say.
There were 25 passengers on board the New York City-bound train at the time, officials say. They will be taken by bus to a nearby station where they will catch another train.
Commuters riding eastbound trains on the Northeast Corridor and New Jersey Coast lines should expect 10- to 15-minute delays, NJ Transit said in a tweet.
