Man Follows Woman Off Subway, Chokes Her in Attempted Rape: NYPD

A man followed a 20-year-old woman off a subway train near Lehman College in the Bronx and choked her in an attempt to rape her, police said.

The woman was getting off the D train at Bedford Park Boulevard Wednesday just after midnight when the suspect started talking to her and followed her off the train, according to the NYPD.

The man allegedly kept talking to her as she walked towards her home on Grand Concourse. He followed her into her apartment building and touched her buttocks, then grabbed her neck and told her to take her shorts off, police said.

The victim tried to defend herself, but the man choked her until she lost consciousness, police said. When she regained consciousness, she was able to fight off the suspect, who fled northbound on Grand Concourse to Bedford Park Boulevard.

Police said the man, who may have scratches on his face, was last seen wearing a red polo shirt with a 24-Hour Fitness logo on the front, dark track pants and sneakers, and was holding a black gym bag.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
