Man Fatally Shot Outside Manhattan Shelter Was Delivering Gifts to Children

A 31-year-old man was fatally shot in the head Sunday evening outside a Manhattan homeless shelter as he was delivering Christmas gifts to his four children, according to the man's brother.

Rashawn Nicholson was shot outside the Catherine Street shelter on the Lower East Side at about 7 p.m., police said. Paramedics arrived and pronounced Nicholson dead on the scene.

Police said Nicholson did not reside at the shelter, but lived nearby.

His brother, James Nicholson, said he was visiting New York from South Carolina to deliver Christmas presents for his four children.

"My brother was a good guy," James Nicholson said.

No arrests have been made.
