A man has drowned at Jacob Riis Beach in Queens Tuesday morning, an area infamous for its fierce riptides, police said.
Police responded to a 911 call reporting a drowning victim and found Roberto Bharat, 32, lying unconscious on the beach at approximately 5:30 this morning.
The Yonkers native was rushed to Peninsula General Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.
There are no lifeguards at this part of the beach, so all swimmers are urged to be even more careful about the dangerous riptide.
Several shark sightings at Jacob Riis Beach were also reported this weekend.
