A man in his 60s was found dead on a subway platform at the Herald Square station, prompting an emergency response that sparked concern among a number of rush-hour commuters Friday.
Authorities say they got a call about an unconscious person on the platform at 34th Street and Sixth Avenue around 7 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say there was no apparent trauma and he likely died of natural causes.
Commuters described a heavy police presence.
“Anyone know what happened at the Herald Square subway station?” one tweeted. “There's a crime scene and lots of cops.”
The man's identity has not been released. The medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine how he died.
