A New York man has been convicted in the shotgun shooting of a medical school dean who was his former boss.
Hengjun Chao, of Tuckahoe, was found guilty Tuesday of attempted murder, criminal use of a firearm and assault.
Prosecutors say Chao shot Dr. Dennis Charney outside a deli in suburban Chappaqua in August after stalking him for several days.
The 50-year-old Chao claimed he never meant to kill, injure or even hit Charney, who was briefly hospitalized.
Charney is the dean of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. Authorities say Chao, who was a research assistant professor at the school, blamed Charney for firing him.
Chao faces up to 25 years in prison when he's sentenced Aug. 16.
