21-Year-Old Man Convicted of Murder in Deadly Staten Island Home Invasion

Prosecutors say a man suspected of burglarizing a home on Staten Island and stabbing the owners when they interrupted him has been convicted of murder.

Dante Viggiano, 21, was convicted Friday and faces life in prison when he is sentenced Feb. 11.

Sixty-seven-year-old Peter Gialluisi was stabbed in the face and hand during a struggle, and was later pronounced dead. His 66-year-old wife was stabbed in the head, neck and back. She survived.

The couple were returning from their son's house in New Jersey, on Aug. 31, 2014, where they had gone to celebrate their birthdays. They arrived to find Viggiano in their home, prosecutors said. He attacked them with a kitchen knife before running out the door and was later captured.
