Woman Choked by Stranger on NYC Street, Cops Search for Suspect

Police are looking for a man who they say crept up behind a woman walking on a New York City street and suddenly began choking her.

The suspect was on the opposite side of the street as the 23-year-old victim walked on the 200 block of West 78th Street at about 5 a.m. Sunday, according to police.

He approached her from behind, put his arm around her neck and his hand over her mouth and began to choke her, police said. 

The victim was able to fight off the suspect, who then ran off.
