Man Charged in Stabbing of Top Cop's Son

A 20-year-old Long Island man accused of stabbing the Suffolk County Police Commissioner's son during an early morning bar brawl has pleaded not guilty.

Michael Kiernan, of Selden, was arraigned Saturday on felony and misdemeanor assault charges in the Friday morning stabbing of Michael Dormer, the son of Police Commissioner Richard Dormer.

Police say Dormer was stabbed in the stomach as he tried to help a friend who was being beaten in a brawl outside The Irish Viking Bar in St. James.

Dormer was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.

Kiernan's attorney declined to comment on the incident.
