Parkgoer on Life Support After Being Beaten on Handball Court: NYPD

A 21-year-old man is on life support after he was badly beaten during a fight inside a Queens park Wednesday evening, police say.

The victim got into a fistfight with another man at a handball court inside College Point Park and was severely beaten around 7:30 p.m., according to police.

He was taken to New York Hospital Queens in critical condition and was soon placed on life support, as he was not able to breathe on his own.

Meanwhile, detectives continued to investigate at the active crime scene late Wednesday. They were stationed in a white van near the park gathering evidence.

No arrest has been made, but police say they're looking for one suspect.

Residents in the neighborhood expressed concern Wednesday night. Patrick Gallagher, who has lived in College Point for nearly 40 years, said there have been more incidents like this one as of late.

"I think I should move out of the neighborhood. I've been here since 1978 and we've never had anything like this. You know, what's been happening the last couple of years. Very disturbing, very disturbing," Gallagher said.
