Long Island Man Beat Pet Pomeranian Dog to Death While Disciplining Him: DA

Prosecutors say a Long Island man has been arrested on animal cruelty charges for allegedly beating his dog to death.

Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas says 23-year-old Bing Jie Yang pleaded not guilty to felony and misdemeanor charges Wednesday.

Authorities allege Yang beat his Pomeranian while disciplining the dog in April. When he took his pet for treatment at a veterinarian, the animal was dead.

Investigators say the dog, Dan Dan, suffered blunt force trauma, including fractured ribs, a fractured liver and internal bleeding.

Animal cruelty investigators launched a probe and Yang was arrested Wednesday morning.

His attorney, Dana Grossblatt, says her client is graduate student who plans to return to his home in China to teach English to young children.

She says Yang denies the allegations against him.
