8 Sought in Possible Baseball Bat Bias Attack on New Jersey Dog Walker

Authorities say eight men attacked a man with a baseball bat as he walked his dog in a Jersey shore town over the weekend, and police believe the assault may have been a bias crime.

Police say the man was walking his dog outside his Paris Court townhouse complex in Lakewood just before midnight Saturday when he was was attacked.

The man has injuries to his head and face, either from being punched and kicked or beaten with the bat, police said. Authorities received an anonymous call about the attack and found the man bleeding on the sidewalk, reports the Asbury Park Press.

Police Lt. Steve Allaire tells the newspaper the attackers were identified as Hispanic and the 36-year-old victim was not.

Police have recovered the bat and the vehicle used by the attackers.

The dog was found unharmed in the care of a neighbor, according to the Asbury Park Press.
