Man Charged in Shooting That Wounded Bronx Boy

Police have arrested a man after a 9-year-old boy got caught in crossfire while walking home from school and was hit bullet in the Bronx last month.

Vernon Franklyn, 22, is charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon after a boy was hit in the foot by a stray bullet in front of a bodega in Tremont Dec. 18, police say.

The boy was the only person hit as as three armed men shot at a group of three other men near East 175th Street and Clinton Avenue. After the shooting, the suspects left the scene in a white Chevrolet Impala.

It’s not yet known whether more arrests will be made in the shooting, police say.
