Man Arrested After Shooting at Police in the Bronx

A 19-year-old man is under arrest after authorities say he exchanged gunfire with police in the Bronx.

According to the NYPD, two plain clothes officers were responding to a report of shots fired near Zerega and Tratman avenues in Westchester Square just after midnight when they encountered the suspect, who fled on foot upon seeing the officers.

When the officers gave chase the man allegedly turned around and fired two shots from a semi-automatic handgun at them, missing the officers. The two officers returned fire, but did not strike the suspect, police said. The suspect then dropped his gun and fled, but was apprehended a short time later after police found him hiding under a car nearby.

Police recovered the suspects gun and charges against him are pending, officials said.
