Man, 19, Arrested on Two DWI Charges in 10 Hours

A 19-year-old New Jersey man arrested on a DWI charge after a crash that caused a 20-hour road detour was arrested on another DWI charge 10 hours later in a hit-run crash he allegedly caused while stuck in the traffic congestion stemming from his accident the previous night, police say.

Nicholas Corsair was arrested late Tuesday after driving off the roadway when he was on Route 9 and hitting a utility pole, causing extensive damage, police say. Detours had to be implemented so utility JCP&L crews could repair the damage, and major traffic delays were reported in the area.

Corsair was released around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. Once he got out of custody, police say his mother let him drive a car under the influence of suspected narcotics, leading to an accident around 7:30 p.m. In that accident, near Route 9 and Whitty Road, which still has traffic congestion from the Tuesday night accident, police say Corsair allegedly rear-ended a Honda driven by a 54-year-old Forked River man and fled the scene.

Corsair was found at his home and arrested again a short time later. He was charged with driving a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled dangerous substances as well as other traffic violations.

His mother was arrested on a charge of allowing a person to drive a vehicle while impaired. Both mother and son were released pending a later court date.

No one was hurt in either accident.

Information on an attorney for Corsair wasn't immediately available.
