Brooklyn Man Accused of Torturing Woman, Imprisoning Her for a Month

Police said he tortured the woman with a hot iron and heated screwdriver and broke several of her teeth by shoving a gun into her mouth

The NYPD has arrested a Brooklyn man for allegedly imprisoning and brutalizing a woman in his apartment for more than a month.

Police say Anthony Matthews was arrested Wednesday after police, responding to a 911 call, found a woman with multiple injuries at Woodhull Medical Center.

The victim was in the hospital's intensive care unit on Thursday. She told police she and Mathews had been dating for two years, but he allegedly kidnapped her and held her captive from June 29 through July 30.

She told police said the 31-year-old Matthews, who previously served about 10 years in state prison for attempted murder in another case, tied her up daily and beat her. Police said Matthews allegedly tortured the woman with a hot iron and heated screwdriver and broke several of her teeth by shoving a gun into her mouth.  She may also have been sexually abused.

Police say the suspect left the victim, who is from Peekskill, at his mother's doorstep on Lafayette Avenue Wednesday. It wasn't immediately clear how the victim got to the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.

Matthews was charged with kidnapping, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Information on an attorney wasn't immediately available.
