Body Found Near NJ River ID'd as Woman Allegedly Killed by Boyfriend

The woman's boyfriend was charged with murder and is being held on $2 million bail

Authorities say a body found in Newark over the weekend is the Cranford, N.J., woman who prosecutors allege was killed by her boyfriend.

Police had been searching for 43-year-old April Wyckoff since late last week.

The body was found near the Passaic River off Raymond Boulevard on Sunday. Wyckoff's car was discovered in Newark last week.

Authorities have charged 43-year-old Matthew Ballister III, who is held on $2 million bail. They believe he killed Wyckoff in his Union Township home sometime on Tuesday evening.

Sources say Ballister's Mercer Avenue home reeked of bleach, suggesting he tried to clean blood stains. The upstairs bedroom was in disarray, and investigators found some blood on the driveway that had mostly been washed off with a hose.

Ballister's 70-year-old mother has been charged with hindering apprehension for allegedly trying to help her son conceal evidence of the alleged murder. Sources said investigators found a bag of bloody clothes in her car.
