Suspect Who Shoved Man Down Subway Stairs Arrested: NYPD

The victim sustained a fractured knee, police said

A man wordlessly shoved a 69-year-old man down a flight of stairs at a subway station in Queens last week, police say, causing the older man to fracture his knee.

It's not clear what prompted the suspect, 44-year-old Jerome Blakely of Manhattan, to push the victim down the stairs at the 36th Street station in Long Island City at about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police said.

No words were exchanged between the suspect and the victim prior to the assault, investigators said.

The victim sustained a fractured knee, police said.

Police arrested Blakely Monday on a charge of second-degree assault, a day after releasing surveillance images of him inside the subway station.

It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
