    What to Know

    • Delays have been building on the New York side of the Lincoln Tunnel as crews make emergency repairs

    • Officials said an oversize truck damaged the tunnel's ceiling around 2 p.m.

    • Repair crews were able to get one outbound, center-tube lane reopened shortly before 5 p.m.

Part of the Lincoln Tunnel is closed to traffic Thursday evening as crews make emergency repairs following an accident involving an oversize truck, officials said.

Delays had reached 45 minutes by 4 p.m. and were continuing into the evening rush.

The repairs were sparked by an oversized truck that drove into the tunnel around 2 p.m. and took out ceiling tiles, Port Authority officials said.

The center tube was initially closed in both directions, but repair crews managed to reopen an outbound lane. The other lane remained closed to traffic shortly before 5 p.m.

The Holland Tunnel and George Washington Bridge were also experiencing backup as the evening rush wore on.
